5G Berlin offers an open5Gaccess Testbed set up in the center of Berlin.  Heterogeneous deployments of wireless infrastructure allow early evaluation of 5G concepts in a realistic propagation environment. The ideal place to develop and test key technology features for increased capacity, reduced latency or improved quality-of-experience with our experts and partners. Open5Gaccess includes wireless access and backhaul technology components ranging from sub UHF sensor and metering over below 6 GHz cellular access technologies up to the Millimeterwave spectrum for high capacity access and backhaul link.

5G Playground

The 5G Playground addresses all relevant research directions for the 5G Core Technologies. It is a Testbed-as-a-service solution which enables researchers and engineers from operator, vendor and academia, around the world, to understand and to perform practical experimentation and demonstrations on very new pre-standard 5G network capabilities within a realistic running test environment.
5G is a convergent infrastructure based primarily on Software and the benefits of cloud architectures (SDN / NFV). Besides supporting the existing Multimedia services (NGN, IMS & OTT) 5G will become the enabler for the emerging M2M and IOT technologies and services, like Industry 4.0 and additional vertical solutions.

5G Berlin offers an open5Gphotonics testbed that gives you access to dark fibers in the city of Berlin. The ideal place to prototype, test  and characterize  fiber and free-space optics based next generation 5G back- and fronthauling solutions. The open5Gphotonics testbed allows you to build and evaluate wireless 5G test scenarios in a realistic photonic access, metro and core network environment, best suited for studies on end-to-end signal integrity, latency and throughput.

Open5GCore Testbed

The Open5GCore Testbed mirrors the current advancements towards 5G in the area of convergent core networks, intelligent network management and virtualization. Based on a testbed oriented software implementation, the Open5GCore includes a running environment, enabling the easy setup of a small size mobile network operator  including all relevant functionality required for speeding up research facilitating know-how transfer, fast and targeted innovation, experimentation and realistic evaluation.

Networks and Functions Virtualisation

Currently, our cloud research is part of the OpenSDNCore team and it concentrates on multi-data center robust Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) and on network virtualisation high availability  with, or without leveraging, Software Defined Network (SDN), fault management, load balancing, automatic network recovery, dynamic network functions placement, etc. For the 5G environment, we are aiming at a best practice for developing and runtime manage software components on top of uniform hardware platforms.
